KINDERGARTEN

Background

Early Childhood Services (Kindgarten) provides a foundation for learning. The Superintendent will ensure that eligible children have access to a kindergarten program that meets the requirements of the Education Act and the Early Childhood Regulation.

Procedures

1. The School may provide a kindergarten program of no less than the minimum instructional hours (475) as funded by Alberta Education for all eligible students.
2. In order to provide a Kindergarten program, the School may combine Kindergarten with other primary grade(s). An Educational Assistant may support the delivery of the ECS program under the supervision and direction of the certificated teacher who is responsible for the instructional program and professional services such as student assessment as per the Act s. 196 and Ministerial Regulation.
3. The Principal shall hold a spring meeting of the parent(s) of students eligible for Kindergarten to:
3.1 Outline the School program to be offered in the fall;
3.2 Obtain registration of those interested in the program.
4. The Principal is authorized to offer kindergarten orientation in the spring for students who will attend the program in the fall. If the current kindergarten students are exempt from attendance during an orientation for new students, the Principal shall ensure that the minimum hours of instruction (475) are met for the current kindergarten students.
5. The Principal is authorized to establish and announce at the spring meeting a Kindergarten fee, as may be required, to cover supplemental local costs associated with the program.
6. The School may assess a fee for all students attending Kindergarten.
