ORGANIZATIONAL PLAN FOR INSTRUCTION

Background

The Principal is responsible for the organizational plan (also call a school program plan) for instruction at the School.

Procedures

1. The Principal shall develop, in consultation with teachers and within the context of the projected budget, a school
organizational plan which best accommodates the needs of the students and clearly outlines the following:
1.1 Organization of classes;
1.2 Organization of teacher assignments;
1.3 Course offerings of the school.
2. Annually, no later than April 30 the Principal shall submit to the Superintendent, the organizational plan for the
subsequent school year which includes the following:
2.1 The projected enrolment on which the organizational plan was
developed;
2.2 How existing staff will be deployed;
2.3 Staff surplus to the program plan; and
2.4 Staff required to meet the needs of the program plan.
3. The Principal shall advise the Superintendent of enrolment or other factors that may necessitate a change in the
organizational plan at the beginning of a school year.
4. The Principal shall ensure that all instructional time for students is assigned to certificated teachers in accordance with
the Education Act s. 21 and s 221. Educational Assistants may supervise students and deliver program components
under the direction of a certificated teacher who is responsible for the duties of a teacher as defined in the Act.
5. The Principal is authorized to organize multi-grade combinations of students on a temporary or ongoing basis in order
to meet the learning needs of students. The organizational plan is intended to support continuous learning for all
students while recognizing that it may be necessary and/or desirable to group students from different grades or
different courses in the same class during an instructional period.
6. The function of assigning students to classes is the responsibility of the Principal, pursuant to the Education Act and
relevant legislation.
