BOARD POLICY 16: RECRUITMENT AND SELECTION OF PERSONNEL

Preamble

The Board believes that recruiting and selecting capable leaders for the effective and efficient operation of the School is a shared responsibility between the Board and the Superintendent.

Specifically

  1. The Board reserves unto itself the authority to establish administrative positions in addition to the statutory requirements for a Superintendent and Secretary-Treasurer.
  2. The Board has the sole authority to recruit and select an individual for the position of Superintendent.
  3. The Superintendent is delegated sole authority to recruit and select staff with the exception of Principal and Secretary-Treasurer as noted herein:

3.1 The Superintendent is responsible for creating a short list of candidates for Principal or Secretary-Treasurer.

  • 2 The Superintendent and two Directors shall constitute the interview team and their decision will be made by majority provided the Superintendent’s vote is part of the majority.

3.3 The Superintendent shall communicate the committee’s decision to the candidates.

  • 4 If the Secretary and/or Treasurer position is awarded to a contracted service provider rather than an employee, the contractor shall have a written, time bound contract for defined services. Either party may request an extension to the Contract for Services ninety (90) days prior to the expiry date of the contract.
  • 6 Contractors for services shall have their terms defined in a Contract for Service.
  • 7 All employees shall have Employment Contracts.
  • 8 In the event of an unexpected, short‐term vacancy, the Superintendent may appoint an “acting principal” until the vacancy is filled in accordance with policy.
  • 9 All offers of employment shall be conditional upon the successful candidate providing Criminal and Vulnerable Sector and Child Welfare Records checks that are acceptable to the Board or Superintendent. Thereafter, every staff member must provide these Records checks every five years. Additionally, the Superintendent may require documentation certifying that the candidate is medically fit for the position.
